Hydrogen projects
We continue to revamp our gas storage site and services, so that you can be assured of 24/7 availability and a product that suits your needs. We also make our knowledge, experience and facilities available for new developments, such as hydrogen. EnergyStock facilitates the development of hydrogen storage and provides a home base for a pilot electrolysis project.
Electrolysis pilot
The electrolysis pilot project converts sustainable electricity into green hydrogen and is located at the site of EnergyStock. With this pilot project we are gaining experience of converting green electricity to green hydrogen. The pilot project plant converts 1 megawatt of sustainable electricity to green hydrogen and is the first to apply this process on a significant scale in the Netherlands.
This first 1 megawatt power-to-hydrogen installation is an important step in scaling up the power-to-hydrogen technology. The solar field at Zuidwending can be used for providing green power for our installation and for the conversion to green hydrogen.
Due to the new Energy Act, we will, for the time being, no longer offer conversion services as of 1 January 2026.
Green hydrogen gas (fuelling) station realised at EnergyStock premises
In August 2020 Ulco Vermeulen, a member of the Board of Directors of Gasunie, was the first to refuel at the new hydrogen refueling plant at EnergyStock. After that, a number of colleagues filled Gasunie's hydrogen cars with green hydrogen.
The green hydrogen comes from the hydrogen conversion unit from the electrolysis pilot project. The installation converts energy from its own solar panels on site into hydrogen.
